Jack Sheridan's injury-time goal helped Kildare come from behind in dramatic circumstances to take the points from this absorbing tie at the Athletic Grounds.

The Lilies swept into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead within the opening ten minutes with a brace of points from David Reidy and Sheridan, but they were soon reined in by their hosts.

Bolstered by Danny Magee's 23rd-minute goal, the Orchard side assumed control with Magee landing a trio of points and Nathan Curry, Ryan Gaffney and Cathal Carvill also on target as they led by 1-7 to 0-9 at the break.

It was nip and tuck throughout the second half but former Kilkenny All-Ireland winner John Mulhall, who hit six points over the 70 minutes, kept Kildare in touch.

Joe Quaid's side streaked ahead in the closing minutes as Sheridan's goal and two points from Limerick native Reidy helped boost their promotion hopes.
