A second-half scoring blitz saw Roscommon easily account for Monaghan in yesterday's Division 3A final at a wet and windy Fr Tierney Park, Ballyshannon.

Two goals in four minutes from Cillian Egan midway through the second half virtually sealed the win, with the winners adding a further 1-7 to Monaghan's 0-1 in the final quarter.

Roscommon netted after only a minute in this contest with Adrian Murphy firing home after playing a one-two with Ronan O'Meara. But Monaghan were the better side in the second quarter, though the half became a freetaking shoot-out between Jerry Fallon and Stephen Lambe. Roscommon led 1-4 to 0-6 at the break.

Roscommon regained control in their half-back line and played with a much greater intensity in the second half. With conditions worsening and a strong wind behind Roscommon after the break, Monaghan's effort soon petered out. Roscommon picked off scores at will, with Cillian Egan, Jerry Fallon and Naos Connaughton all finding the target. Late on, sub Chris Duignan fired a powerful effort to the net for his side's fourth goal.

The dismissal of Stephen Lambe for a second booking was the final blow for a Monaghan side that threatened to compete early on.
