Our Lady's Templemore responded well to their Harty Cup final defeat by overcoming Gort CS in the quarter-final of the All-Ireland Post-Primary Schools Senior 'A' Hurling Championship in Kilmallock on Saturday.

Templemore took a stranglehold around the quarter-hour thanks to the unerring free-taking of Jamie Bergin and Brian McGrath.

Anthony Ryan struck for a crucial goal after 14 minutes and followed up with a quick point, and then Jerry Kelly and Lyndon Fairbrother were on target to put Templemore eight-points clear.

Gort relied primarily on the free-taking of Cathal Noonan for scores but Enda Fahy and Enda Egan did land good points to keep the Galway men in touch going into the second half. And when Cianan Fahy and Egan pointed within minutes of the restart, it appeared as if the runners-up were going to fight back.

But they missed four frees in the second half and Templemore kept them at arm's length, with McGrath, Jamie Bergin, Ryan and Paddy Cadell on target.

The influential Ryan was sent off and will now miss the semi-final against St Kieran's College, Kilkenny.
