First-half goals from Brian Cassidy and Alan Grant set up Derry for an easy win over Monaghan in Inniskeen.

With the breeze at their backs, Monaghan gave as good as they got in the early stages of the first half, but were guilty of poor shooting and paid the price when Cassidy and Grant struck to leave Derry ahead by 2-7 to 0-5 at the break.

Whatever hopes Monaghan had of staging a comeback all but disappeared five minutes into the second half when Derry substitute Brendan Rogers waltzed through to blast an unstoppable shot into the net.

Rogers added two more goals to complete a hat-trick, adding to the one he scored in the last round against Longford.

Derry were already home and dry by the time Ruairi Convery smashed a 21-yard free to the net late on.
