Goals in either half from Johnny Reeves and Cathal Egan helped Kildare to their third successive Leinster 'A' U-21 hurling title in Newbridge last night.

Noel McMahon's team had to overcome a sluggish opening quarter but once Reeves netted in the 16th minute, the Lilies took control of the game against a Wicklow team who only scored three points from play until two late scores in injury-time left just a point in it at full time.

Three points from senior star Mikey Lee helped Wicklow into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead before Reeves scored the crucial goal for Kildare, who led 1-4 to 0-6 at half-time.

A brilliantly taken goal by Egan in the 43rd minute sent Kildare on their way to victory with well taken scores by Ryan Casey and Mark Nevin establishing a three-point lead.

Wicklow struck two points in injury-time but Kildare held on.
