Redmond brace sinks Longford
Trinity College 2-21 Longford 2-11
Niall Redmond bagged two goals as Trinity cruised to victory at Glennon Brother Pearse Park.
The students laid down their marker in the opening half and held a deserving six-point cushion at the interval.
Cian O'Dulaing led the charge, firing over 10 points.
Longford endeavoured to fight back in the first half and well-taken goal from Cathal Mulhern and three frees from Joe O'Brien kept them in touch.
Both teams were reduced to 14 men on the brink of half-time after TCD's Thomas Mitchell and Longford's Luke Kelly were handed red cards over an off-the-ball incident.
After the break, the visitors continued to dominate, with Colm O'Neill and Donnacha Butler causing serious problems to Longford's rearguard.
In the closing stages TCD piled on the pressure were rewarded when Redmond somehow managed to flick the sliotar across the line after a goalmouth scramble.
Redmond was again in the right place at the right time moments later and this time the decision was clear-cut as he clinically drilled the ball home.
