Red-hot Banville on cloud nine as Wexford see off the Faithful

A goal in each half helped Wexford to a comfortable seven-point victory over Offaly in a game that failed to ignite at Innovate Wexford Park on Saturday.

Both sides showed real motivation through the opening quarter but it was Wexford who were makings best use of their chances playing into the breeze.

After the sides shared 0-2 each through the opening seven minutes, Joe Keenaghan and David Nally giving the midlanders an early advantage with points before two Ross Banville pointed frees had the sides level, 0-2 each, after eight minutes.

Mainly through the accuracy of Banville from frees and Jack Devereux, Wexford gradually edged their way into a 0-8 to 0-5 advantage, but the crucial breakthrough arrived one minute before the break when Devereux goaled from close range giving his side a 1-9 to 0-6 interval lead, with Aaron Maher, Aaron Kenny and Conor Langton points keeping Offaly in contention.

Wexford's dominance was to continue through the second half with a Charlie McGuckin 40th-minute goal extending their lead to 2-13 to 0-8.

While Offlay kept on battling they were unable to fashion any real chances with their goal a Joe Keenaghan effort coming eight minutes from the end but too late to affect the result.
