The Limerick man will know that his team will face much tougher tests this season than against a side who failed to score from play.

But Kildare did all that could have been asked of them on the day.

After Kildare had scored the first three points, Martin Fitzgerald scored the first of his team's five goals in the eighth minute, and he got the second nine minutes before half-time.

Naas teenager Jack Sheridan scored the third major of the game late in the first half and Kildare led 3-12 to 0-3 at the break, with all the students' points coming from Cian O Dulaing frees.

Things didn't get any better for Trinity College after the interval.

Kildare completed the win with second-half goals from Gerry Keegan and Ross Bergin, on a day the students will want to forget.
