The first half failed to ignite. The best chance of a goal came in the seventh minute when Clonkill's Luke Folan bore down on the Raharney goal but failed to pass the ball with some better-placed colleagues available.

At the break, Clonkill led by 0-7 to 0-5.

Two converted frees from Brendan Murtagh doubled his side's advantage early in the second half. At the other end, Cormac Boyle pointed and Clonkill led by 0-10 to 0-7 after 40 minutes.

Paul Greville slotted over a monster free for Raharney and the holders took the lead in the 42nd minute when Killian Doyle found the net in style.

Captain Paddy Dowdall (who, with substitute Kelvin Reilly added hurling medals to the football honours won a week earlier with St Loman's, Mullingar) quickly equalised.

There followed a fine move involving Luke Folan and Anthony Price, with Niall Dowdall blasting the ball past Andrew Doyle.

Eoin Price scored Clonkill's insurance point in added time.
