Colm Bonnar is still seeking his first competitive win as Carlow manager after UCD blew their hosts away in the first half at Netwatch Cullen Park.

The students surged into 3-8 to 0-4 interval lead against a listless Carlow side. Dublin's Oisín O'Rorke led the charge with 2-6 in that opening half, adding point after the break before being withdrawn.

Carlow were much improved in the second half and, with Paul Coady deadly from frees - he finished with 0-10 from placed ball -Bonnar's men rallied splendidly to come within three points of the visitors at 3-12 to 1-15 when Chris Nolan scored a 57th minute goal and followed up with a fine point from play.

But UCD did enough to get over the line in a game which was a dead rubber after both sides had lost to Dublin and Wexford.
