O'Loughlin shines to stun Carlow
London 5-16 Carlow 1-11
London corner-forward Kevin O'Loughlin stole the show at Netwatch Cullen Park as he racked up 3-9 to stun Carlow - before retiring on 62 minutes through injury
O'Loughlin's tally was made up of 2-1 out of play, 0-3 off '65s', 0-3 from frees, 0-2 line cuts and 1-0 from a penalty. His opening goal, scored from close range in the 16th minute, put his side 1-5 to 0-2 ahead.
Carlow were hurled off the pitch as London led 2-12 to 0-3 at half time, with Martin Duggan getting their second goal. Any expectation of a Carlow rally was stifled early on resumption, when O'Loughlin converted a '65' and Mark O'Dwyer quickly raised another white flag.
When Duggan was dragged down in the small square, O'Loughlin crashed the resultant penalty into the net, and his third goal was a kicked effort on 59 minutes.
Substitute Bill Walsh scored London's fifth goal before Carlow's Sean Whelan scored a consolation goal on 61 minutes.
Carlow's day of misery was complete when Diarmuid Byrne received a second yellow card on 47 minutes.
