O'Loughlin keeps Ardscoil dream alive
Ardscoil Rís 3-15 Kilkenny CBS 1-13 Croke Cup Quarter Final
A two-goal salvo in three second-half minutes sent Niall Moran's Harty Cup holders Ardscoil Rís through to the Croke Cup semi-finals.
Ardscoil have won four of last seven Harty Cup titles on offer and kept alive their hopes of a maiden All-Ireland win with this eight-point success over Leinster runners-up Kilkenny CBS.
The next hurdle for the Limerick school is an All-Ireland semi-final clash with Connacht champions Presentation College Athenry.
Ardscoil had to dig this one out as Leinster runners-up Kilkenny CBS, who trailed by six points in the first half, were back to within a point after half-time, 1-8 to 1-9 adrift.
But two goals in three minutes secured victory for Ardscoil, as Conor Boylan and Paraic O'Loughlin netted in quick succession.
Ardscoil led by five points at half-time, 1-9 to 0-7, with Limerick's 2015 All-Ireland U-21 medallist Peter Casey warming up for his All-Ireland senior club final with Na Piarsaigh, picking off four first-half points.
And Ardscoil had the ideal start when they scored a fortuitous goal in the very first minute, O'Loughlin on target with a speculative effort from the left flank that went all the way in.
CBS scored their only goal in the first minute of the second half and this was another scruffy effort as Bill Sheehan scrambled the ball home from close range.
