Wicklow cruised to a 16-point victory against newly-promoted Roscommon at Athleague yesterday.

The home side found the step up difficult, with Wicklow's greater speed, strength and hurling craft seeing them ease to victory.

A goal by Andy O'Brien after four minutes set the tone for what was to follow.

The hugely impressive Christy Moorehouse was on target from the penalty spot after 20 minutes as the visitors raced clear.

Roscommon's opening score came from Naos Connaughton after 13 minutes.

Frees from Shane Curley and Robbie Fallon was all they could add to their tally, as they trailed 2-11 to 0-3 at the break.

With the wind, Roscommon made little headway in the second-half and Wicklow's forwards, having done all the damage in the first period, tagged on six further points to Roscommon's four to earn a convincing win.
