Wolfe Tones claimed victory in Saturday's Munster club IHC final at Mallow after a commanding display.
However, the Clare side were forced to survive a late burst from Newcestown.
Wolfe Tones enjoyed the better start, moving 0-8 to 0-3 ahead after 17 minutes.
When Gary O'Connell batted to the net in the 21st minute it gave the Clare champions a deserved seven-point advantage.
Newcestown, meanwhile, were reliant on converted frees from Eoin Kelly and he kept his side in touch to leave the half-time score 1-11 to 0-8. Wolfe Tones continued their good form after the break with a lot of credit due to their defensive unit who restricted Newcestown to just three points from play for the normal duration of the game.
With the final 10 minutes left to play they led 1-15 to 0-11 and only for an outstanding save by goalkeeper Darren Heffernan from sub Jack Cunningham the gap could have been greater. Kelly nailed a brace of frees to reduce the margin but the men from Shannon town responded through Cunningham and O'Connell.
Then, with the contest in added time, Horgan struck for a goal to cut the deficit to four points. A Shanagher free eased the pressure but when Horgan found the net a minute later, it made for a nervous finish.
