McCarry hits killer blow
Loughgiel 1-25 Ballygalget 0-9 Ulster SHC Semi-final
Antrim's Loughgiel Shamrocks cruised to the Ulster final with a 19-point win over Ballygalget of Down at sun-soaked Maghera.
Aside from the opening five minutes which saw Gareth Johnson and Gerard Roddy give the Ardsmen the lead, the 2012 All-Ireland champions were in control. By the end of the first half, five of the six Loughgiel forwards were on the scoresheet, with Maol Connolly's accuracy from placed balls complementing Liam Watson, Donal McKinley, Eddie McCloskey, Benny McCarry and Mark McFadden's efforts from play.
McKinley also had a shot well saved by Graham Clarke, with Connolly pointing the resultant '65. Cormac Coulter kept the scoreboard ticking over for Ballygalget who trailed by 0-15 to 0-8 at the break.
McCarry put the game beyond doubt within seven minutes of the restart. Two points from the corner-forward stretched the lead to nine points, before he lashed the sliotar to the net for a 1-17 to 0-8 lead.
Manager Johnny Campbell started to empty his bench and Bernard McAuley got his name on the scoresheet before Johnson added Ballygalget's first point of the second half on 54 minutes.
A red card in the dying seconds for James McGrath summed up Ballygalget's day.
