Kildare manager Joe Quaid admits that, despite the clinical scoreline, his side "got fortuitous goals" in the first half.
Four first-half goals from three seasonal debutants; two Jack Sheridan finishes and a strike each from Shane Ryan and Philip Cocoman, put Kildare in a decisive 4-4 to 1-6 lead at half-time.
Hard to believe the goals were against the run of play. Three goal chances; two stops by Kildare goalkeeper, Paddy McKenna, and 12 wides, took a toll on a St. Patrick's side.
Crucially for Kildare, it took half-time for St. Patricks' Peter Sutton to claim their goal. The Fitzgibbon Cup hopefuls fell away in the second half as Kildare gained a commanding presence.
Nevertheless, St. Patrick's Eoin MacIntyre scored a 43rd-minute goal which left six points between the sides. But a Kildare 12-point haul gave a target-practice finish for the Lilys.
And while St. Patricks' Michael Collins did add a third goal, Martin Fitzgerald, rattled the net in the 69th minute to give his side their second Cup win.
