Louth snuff out Fingal defiance
Louth 4-10 Fingal 1-17
While there was uncertainty in the close season over the future of Fingal hurling, there was a defiant response from the North Co Dublin outfit at Darver yesterday.
Having had just a few training sessions in the New Year due to uncertainty over the management team, Mick Kennedy took charge, having believed to have stepped down in the summer.
Fingal looked sharp in the early stages. The concession of an early goal, with Louth's Paddy Lynch striking in the first five minutes, was a setback, though.
Eventually the visitors got on top and they went in at half-time level, 0-9 to 1-6.
After the break, Fingal edged three points ahead before Liam Dwan drew Louth level on 45 minutes.
Moments later, Fingal were back in front, when TJ Howard followed up into the net after a blocked shot.
However, some slack marking at the back allowed Sean Connolly to beat the Fingal keeper.
Louth then netted their fourth goal through Turlough Hendry to lead by five points with five minutes to go before Fingal added some late frees.
