Leitrim left to rue a late Wee suckerpunch
Louth 0-16 Leitrim 1-12
A wasteful Leitrim were punished by Louth with two points deep in stoppage time in a competitive and hugely entertaining game at sun-kissed Ballinamore on Saturday.
The Wee County had raced into a five-point lead including four Liam Dwan points. However, Louth were only ahead of their hosts 0-9 to 0-6 at half-time.
Leitrim's full forward Padraig O'Donnell received a second yellow card on 37 minutes, but referee James Connors dismissed Louth centre back Ronan Byrne with a straight red three minutes later, just before Gavin O'Hagan goaled in the 49th minute.
With nine minutes remaining, Zac Moradi gave Leitrim the lead for the first time with a point from play but a succession of wides from frees and play were punished by two points, a Diarmuid Murphy free and a Mark Wallace winner from play.
