Last-gasp Hands denies Lilies
London 2-23 Kildare 2-23 (after extra-time)
Substitute Luke Hands grabbed a last-gasp goal to earn London a draw against holders Kildare at Ruislip.
London led by seven points with 12 minutes of normal time remaining. Kildare, though, stayed cool, forcing extra-time with goals from as replacement Gerry Keegan and Mark Moloney.
London had the wind in the first half but the sides were level at the break, 0-10 each.
After the restart, the hosts pulled clear, helped by Martin Duggan’s 39th-minute goal.
Kildare, prompted by former Tipperary star David Young, gradually reduced the deficit as Keegan goaled in the 60th minute.
Despite the 70th minute dismissal of Martin Fitzgerald, Moloney was still able to flick an equalising goal.
There was further drama in extra-time, and Kildare were on the verge of victory, but Hands’ opportunism set up a replay at Newbridge next weekend.
