Kevin Ryan is the new Offaly hurling manager after he was ratified following a lengthy county board meeting last night.

The Waterford native, who has previously taken charge of Carlow, Antrim and Tyrone, takes over the reins with the Fauithful county and will be assisted by Paul Flynn and Gary Longwell.

As a player he won five senior county championships with Mount Sion and captained The Deise at both Under 21 and senior level.

He was not the unanimous choice with strong call for Danny Owens to get the position that was vacated by Eamonn Kelly in the summer.

Pat Flanagan was also re-appointed manager of the county's footballers last night.
