Mayfield emerged from a tough opening half to pull away and book their place in the All-Ireland junior club hurling final.

A fortunate goal from Nicky Kelly coupled with the sending off of Calry/St Joseph's Kevin Gilmartin were both key moments in the second half as the Cork men advanced.

The opening half was a competitive affair with the Sligo men racing into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead early on.

Mayfield soon found their rhythm and, led by Kelly at centre-forward, they went in leading 0-8 to 0-5 at half-time having being under pressure for most of the half.

The opening 10 minutes of the second half saw the game's defining period. Kelly launched in a high ball that deceived Chris Madden and ended up in the net while Kevin Gilmartin was also dismissed on a second yellow card. That goal left it 1-9 to 0-5 and Mayfield pushed on to lead 1-14 to 0-7 with time almost up.

Calry/St Joseph's stayed battling to the end and did get a consolation goal from Conor Griffin at the death but there was no denying Mayfield their trip to Croke Park.
