Joe Canning makes hurling superfan Jennifer Malone's day at Croker with heartwarming gesture
Jennifer Malone captured the hearts of GAA fans everywhere when she was pictured consoling Waterford's Pauric Mahony after the Deise were beaten by Kilkenny in their All-Ireland semi-final replay, but this time she was on the receiving end of a touching gesture.
The Kildare native, who turns 18 tomorrow, is an avid sports fan and was at Croke Park today for the Leinster final between Galway and Wexford wearing a jersey featuring both counties colours.
She got a very special birthday present today when Galway hero Joe Canning, who she has met on many occasions before, convinced stewards at GAA HQ to allow her on to the pitch for a photo with the Bob O'Keeffe Cup after the Tribesmen's 0-29 to 1-17 victory.
Writing on Facebook today, her mum Donna wrote: "A lovely day in Croke park. Joe Canning brought Jen pitch side to wish her happy birthday and let her hold the Trophy with him she was delighted. Then she told the man in the station it's her birthday tomorrow and they announced it on the platform and the train....."
Her mum told Independent.ie that Jennifer couldn't lose today because she was shouting for Joe and Wexford's Lee Chin.
Jennifer is an athlete in her own right and was a multiple medallist at the Special Olympics: Ireland Games last year.
