A blistering start from IT Carlow, highlighted by a superb second-minute goal from Waterford senior star Colin Dunford, set the home side on the way to victory.

By the 11th minute the Carlow students, coached by DJ Carey, had raced into a 1-6 to 0-1 lead and, picking off some superb scores, they led 1-9 to 0-5 at half-time. DCU rallied briefly towards the end of the half, Danny Sutcliffe getting on the scoresheet from play in an otherwise subdued performance.

The Carlow domination continued in the second half as they racked up 0-12, with Stephen Maher top-scoring with 0-9. DCU substitute Peter Hogan from Waterford scored a consolation 58th-minute goal for the Dublin students.
