“If you look at teams like Kilkenny, Tipperary and Cork this year, they all have a spread of scores through the team. I don’t see that in Galway, albeit Cathal Mannion had a spectacular day in the Leinster semi-final replay against Dublin,” says Shefflin.

“Joe’s goal in the Leinster final was absolutely wonderful, yet I heard people saying after that Galway needed more from him. I think the truth is they needed more from others.

"This is where the Championship starts getting really serious and it’s where the likes of Mannion and Jason Flynn are going to have to make their presence felt.”
