Hennessy puts 13-man Longford to the sword
Warwickshire 1-15 Longford 2-10: Allianz NHL Div 3B final
Supersub Sean Hennessy was the toast of Warwickshire after his nine-point contribution helped the Exiles to the title at Ratoath on Saturday.
The Cork native - son of three times All-Ireland winner Kevin - was sprung from the bench after just 12 minutes as a replacement for injured captain Emmet McCabe.
The John Mitchels clubman helped resurrect his sides hopes, with six of those points coming in the second half. Boosted by an Eoin Donnellan penalty goal Longford deservedly led 1-7 to 0-7 at the break.
However, they had Cathal Mullane red-carded in the 29th minute and their hopes received another blow when they were reduced to 13 men with the dismissal of Paddy Corcoran on 46 minutes.
Longford's interval advantage was wiped out within three minutes of the restart following points from Hennessy and John Reddan and a goal from half-time substitute Colm McBride.
Warwickshire, who were beaten in the 2012 decider, pulled five points clear before Bart Hanley pulled a goal back for the midlanders in the closing minutes.
Longford went all out for a match-winning goal in added-time but Warwickshire held out for a memorable win.
