Hat-trick hero Cadogan shines for UCC
UCC 5-13 Ulster University 2-4
Cork star Alan Cadogan scored three goals as UCC began their Fitzgibbon Cup campaign with a win against Ulster University at the Mardyke yesterday.
While it wasn't completely one-way traffic for Tom Kingston's side, a strong finish to the first half helped to fire them into a 3-6 to 1-3 half-time lead. Though the visitors scored a second goal just after the restart, a comeback was never likely.
Early on, a free from Rob O'Shea put UCC in control before Cadogan netted to make it 1-4 to 0-1. While Nicky McKeague did double Ulster's tally, James O'Flynn struck for a second UCC goal. McKeague raised a green flag for the away team in the 28th minute, but O'Shea responded in kind to leave nine in it.
Liam Dunphy's long-range free found the net for Ulster after the restart, but they couldn't build on that and Cadogan had two late goals to give UCC a cushion.
