The sides were level at the break with Brian Concanon finding the net for the eventual winners. It was 1-7 to 0-10 at the interval.

In four second half minutes, Galway reeled off 2-2 to put daylight between them and Tipp with the goals coming from substitute Liam Forde and Cianan Fahey.

Man of the match Evan Niland, who finished with nine points,  stretched the advantage with a 65.

Tipperary did come back late on and Tommy Nolan’s goal in the last minute ensured a nervy end for Jeffrey Lynskey's side, but Galway sealed their victory with a fourth goal through sub Michael Lynch in added time.
