Fox on double but Galway must still beat champions UL in Fitzgibbon Cup

Two John Fox goals eased NUI Galway to victory at Dangan, but Tony Ward’s side will likely need a win against holders UL to progress to the last eight.

Fox’s brace added to Cathal Mannion’s 21st-minute strike gave NUI Galway a commanding half-time lead of 3-12 to 0-4, but Derek McNicholas’ penalty miss eight minutes from the break came at a crucial time.

DIT improved after the break as Jack Guiney and Jude Sweeney goaled, but it was easy for NUIG.
