A four goal salvo from corner-forward Peter Slevin helped Meath to a comprehensive win in the Leinster MHC at Trim.
Ace poacher Slevin struck for the first of three opening-half goals within three minutes of the start as he pounced on a rebound off Kildare goalkeeper Jeff Keane.
His second goal left the hosts leading 2-4 to 0-5 on 21 minutes and Meath eventually led 3-4 to 1-7 at the break.
The Kildare goal proved a fortunate affair as a shot from Alex Maher was going wide of the target until Meath's Noel O'Sullivan attempted to bring the sliotar under control but only succeeded in deflecting it into his own net.
The accuracy of Jack Sheridan from frees kept Kildare in contention throughout the third quarter of the contest.
Sheridan took his tally of points to seven but his last effort in the 44th minute proved to be the Lilywhites' final score as their challenge fizzled out.
Meath pressed home their advantage after that with Jack Cox playing a starring role alongside Slevin in attack and finishing with nine points.
Slevin's fourth goal left it 4-9 to 1-11 after 51 minutes and ended any hope Kildare had of staging a last-quarter revival.
Meath's fifth goal arrived in added time with a long-range free from full-back Peter Farrell dropping under the Kildare crossbar to compound their misery.
The winners now take on Laois in the next round.
