Four Roads turn up the heat to complete eight-in-a-row
Four Roads 0-17 Padraig Pearses 1-11
Four Roads proved their worth as champions once more as they won the Mickey Cunniffe Cup for the eighth year in succession at Athleague.
A commanding second-half performance did the trick, with Michéal Kelly, Shane Curley, John Moran, Cathal Dolan and Jamie Lawlor leading the way in a fine team effort.
Having gained momentum in the drawn game courtesy of Gavin Downey's injury-time goal, Pearses were marginally the better side in the opening half of Saturday's replay.
David Loughnane, Cathal Kelly, Tomás Seale, Daniel Glynn and Adam Finnerty were hurling well, and Finnerty's 28th-minute goal gave his side a 1-6 to 0-8 half-time lead.
But Four Roads were a different animal in the second half.
Their mounting tally of wides kept Pearses in the game but scores from Kelly (3), Lawlor (2), Dolan (2), Andrew Lawlor and Eamon Mulry ensured that they remained the undisputed kingpins of Roscommon hurling.
