Referee Alfie Devine had to dish out three red cards in injury-time as tensions reached boiling point and a row along the sideline quickly escalated, eventually into involving almost every player on the field.

Laois side Ballypickas played the first half with the aid of a substantial wind, which helped them establish a 0-8 to 0-2 lead at the break - with MJ Lalor scoring four points from placed balls.

Broadford's Tommy Reilly was shown a second yellow just before half-time, which left the Kildare side with a huge uphill task. They then lost Dean Hanley to a straight red following an off-the-ball incident in the 51st minute.

Lalor got the final point with five minutes to go, but that wasn't the end of the drama.

Ballypickas' Adrian McDonald was given a straight red in added time and Broadford duo Bernard Reilly and David Reilly soon followed.
