Feeney's haul leaves Mayo on summit
Mayo 0-20 Down 0-16
Mayo top Division 2B after going three games unbeaten and inflicting a first defeat on Down in Newry's Páirc Esler yesterday.
Down's task was needlessly made more difficult after corner-back John McManus was sent off on 27 minutes for chopping at Mayo's Joe McManus.
Indeed both teams finished the game with 14 men although Mayo's Gerard McManus walked after receiving a straight red card after 70 minutes.
Kenny Feeney (0-13) put in a man-of-the-match outing scoring all but one of Mayo's first-half scores - Shane Boland grabbed the other.
The sides were level on five occasions in the opening half in what was a rip-roaring opening 20 minutes but the game turned scrappy.
Down's Danny Toner (0-7), Conor Woods and Caolan Baille kept Down in contention for the first 30 minutes, but trailed Mayo 0-10 to 0-07 at half-time.
Even though Down battled back with scores from Scott Nicholson, Woods, Toner and Bailie, Mayo kept at least a two-point lead throughout the second period with Hunt, Boland, Gerard McManus, Sean Mulroy and Corey Scahill scoring.
