Farrell puts shambolic Garden to sword
Meath 10-22 Wicklow 0-7
First, let's start with Meath. Centre-forward Peter Farrell, who bagged 4-7 (all but two points from play) is a fine, physically imposing hurler who will cause any defence problems.
Farrell was adept at finding space and scoring for fun in this one-sided Arklow clash.
The full-forward line finished with 5-6, even though Mikey Cullen and Brian Dowling were substituted early. Cullen in particular has an eye for goal and speed to get there; he played a lovely one-two with the unmarked Farrell for his second goal.
For Wicklow, it didn't only show a gulf in class but also was indicative of problems off the field. The team doesn't have a manager. Last year's county U-16 and minor champions Carnew only have two players in the squad. Minor football training and challenge matches are scheduled for the same time as minor hurling matches.
Wicklow will very quickly lose this generation of hurlers if something isn't done quickly to fix this shambolic situation.
