Davy Fitzgerald's Wexford mixed the good with the indifferent to eventually overpower Carlow at Netwatch Cullen Park yesterday.

Carlow were the better side in the opening half and took the game to the visitors. They picked off some superb points from play and Denis Murphy was accurate from frees.

Once Carlow powered into a double-scores lead (0-10 to 0-5) Fitzgerald's side knuckled down and had reduced the arrears to a single point by half-time after registering four successive scores.

Within seconds of the restart Conor McDonald levelled from a free and Carlow were in trouble from then on and Paul Morris soon shot into an unguarded net after a defensive slip-up.

Carlow could only manage four second-half points while Wexford's Podge Doran scored 1-2 in a late cameo.

Wexford now prepare for a winner-take-all decider against Dublin on Thursday night.
