Two heroes from Cork's last All-Ireland-winning team will look to impart their wisdom to the county's third level players after Sean Og O hAilpin and Tom Kenny were announced as the UCC Freshers managers.

O hAilpin and Kenny, who played wing back and midfield respectively, won back-to-back All-Irelands with Cork in 2004 and 2005. O hAilpin also won a championship medal with the Rebels in 1999, as well as winning three All Stars.

The duo will be looking to reverse a recent decline for UCC at freshers level, with the Cork college last winning the championship in 2013, when current Dublin manager Ger Cunningham guided the team to a fourth straight title.

"We are delighted that such an experienced group of sportsmen will be involved with the training and development of a new breed of college hurler this year," said UCC Hurling Club President, Dr Paddy Crowley in a statement on the UCC website announcing the new managers.

"Over the years UCC GAA Club has promoted, in both codes, countless numbers of young players and has overseen their sporting progression and development. Sean Og and the rest of the lads bring a wealth of experience which can only be good for those they will coach."
