Conway inspires Kingdom
Kerry 2-20 Kildare 2-10
Kerry kept alive their hopes of making it five MHC 'B' titles in a row as they produced a stirring second-half comeback to beat Kildare in an entertaining match at Austin Stack Park.
Kildare dominated the opening half as Kerry just could not match the physicality of the visitors who should have been far more in front at the break than 2-6 to 1-7.
Shane Ryan scored two fine goals while wing-forward James Burke was unerring from frees as Kerry struggled to win breaking ball and it took a fortuitous goal from Shane Conway and 0-3 from Barry O'Mahony to keep Kerry in touch.
However, Kerry resumed a transformed side with Barry O'Mahony switched from full-forward to midfield and the precocious Shane Conway now on the '40' and the Kingdom took over. Conway tormented Kildare and was constantly being fouled leading to Kildare picking up six yellow cards and in the 48th minute full-back Richie Hogan saw red.
Kerry added a goal from Eric Leen who was put through by Conway and Conway scored seven second-half points as Kerry ran out easy winners with Liam Mullins, Barry O'Mahony, Eric Leen and Conway outstanding, while Kildare's fade-out was surprising.
