Brian Whelehan steps down as Offaly hurling boss

Offaly are searching for a new hurling manager after Brian Whelehan informed the county board that he would not be seeking a third year in charge of the Faithful's hurlers.

His decision comes on the back of a disappointing Championship campaign which saw his side lose to Laois in the Leinster Championship for the first time since 1972 and then suffer a heavy defeat to Clare in the qualifiers.

The two-time All-Ireland winner has called it a day with his successor facing an uphill task to improve the fortunes of the proud hurling county.

A committee has been formed to find a replacement.
