Brian Cody names his son Diarmuid in starting line-up to face Waterford in League opener
Father and son will be key figures in Kilkenny’s bid to beat Waterford in the opening round of the Allianz hurling League in Walsh Park on Sunday.
Brian Cody has selected his son, Diarmuid at left half-back for the clash between the reigning All-Ireland and League champions. Diarmuid impressed with Kilkenny U-21s last year and and now gets the senior call-up on a team that features 12 of the starting 15 from the All-Ireland final win over Galway.
Cody’s inclusion means a change of scenery for Cillian Buckley, who moves to midfield in place of Michael Fennelly. The other two changes from the All-Ireland winning team are in attack where JJ Farrell and Mark Kelly come in for Ger Aylward and Eoin Larkin respectively.
Jackie Tyrrell, who missed the final due to injury, is among the subs.
Waterford will have 14 of the team that lost to Kilkenny in the All-Ireland semi-final. The only change sees Patrick Curran replacing Tadhg De Burca, which prompts positional changes in defence, midfield and attack.
