Boyle goal sparks Kingdom's blitz of Laois
Kerry 1-23 Laois 2-14
Kerry announced their return to Division 1B in style with a seven-point win over Laois in O'Moore Park yesterday.
Ciaran Carey's side were full value for the win, as they led by as much as ten points at one stage in the second half, as Laois counted the cost of the raft of players who retired since 2015.
Kerry could hardly have asked for a better start when Michael O'Leary pointed after 13 seconds. The visitors made light of the stiff breeze they were facing into and kept pace with Laois before Mikey Boyle held off Darren Maher before firing in the opening goal of the game for the Kingdom.
That score stunned Laois and Kerry held the upper hand until the 32nd minute, when PJ Scully appeared to get the final touch in a goalmouth scramble to raise a green flag for Laois. Kerry never broke stride though, and hit the final two points of the half to lead 1-11 to 1-10 at the interval.
The opening ten minutes of the second half was where Kerry sealed the victory, as they simply blitzed a disappointing Laois side.
John Egan, Colum Harty and Michael O'Leary all pointed inside four minutes to push them four ahead, and despite a PJ Scully free, Laois were in trouble.
Kerry kept their foot on the throttle, hitting the next four points without reply to go seven clear, and all but wrap up the victory.
The points kept raining in for the Kingdom, with Cahir Healy's late goal merely a consolation for Laois.
