Ardscoil Ris manager Niall Moran was delighted with his side's efforts as they claimed a narrow Croke Cup semi-final win over Presentation College Athenry at the home of St Joseph's Doora-Barefield on Saturday.
The Limerick youngsters struggled to get to grips with Athenry at the start of both halves and trailed 0-12 to 0-10 at half-time, but Conor Boylan's goal was crucial with six minutes remaining.
Pres Athenry fought back to level it up, but a late Brian Ryan effort sealed the win for Ardscoil Ris. "Small things get you over the line. We were lucky enough that we got the goal at the right time.
"They were two great sides and on another day it could have been Athenry's day.
"It's great to win games like today but it's just a semi-final. Kieran's are the perennial winner. It's going to be very very difficult for us," said Moran.
They go on to face St Kieran's of Kilkenny in the final, where they will be looking for revenge after defeats to the Leinster champions in the 2010 and 2011 finals.
St Kieran's are aiming for their third title in a row at this level, but after Paul O'Brien's 10-point haul against Athenry, Ardscoil have plenty to threaten the holders.
