Borris-Kilcotton claimed their first Laois SHC title thanks to a six-point win over Rathdowney-Errill in O'Moore Park yesterday.

After the drama of the drawn game, which ended 2-26 each, Borris-Kilcotton got off to the perfect start with a goal from Neil Foyle in the first minute.

Rathdowney-Errill were slow to get going but sprung to life in the seventh minute when John Purcell flicked a long ball to the net.

Borris-Kilcotton led by two at half-time, 1-7 to 1-5, and with wind advantage to come they were the strong favourites.

They pulled three clear midway through the second half only to see Rathdowney-Errill come roaring back. Paddy Purcell's shot hit the post and rebounded to him, and he scrambled the ball over the line.

Borris-Kilcotton showed character after that though, going back in front through a PJ Scully free.

They then rattled off five points in a row, as Scully, Danny Fitzpatrick and Colm Stapleton hit the target to claim a famous win.
