Barry Kelly to referee All-Ireland hurling final

BARRY Kelly will referee the All-Ireland senior hurling final between Kilkenny and Tipperary on September 7.

It will be the fourth time the Westmeath official has refereed a senior final as he did the initial 2012 final between Kilkenny and Galway (which ended in a draw) and, before that, the 2008 final between Kilkenny and Waterford and the 2006 final between Kilkenny and Cork.

He has already refereed this year's Leinster final and Munster semi-final between Tipperary and Limerick as well as the All-Ireland quarter-final between Limerick and Wexford.

Offaly's Brian Gavin will be the standby referee and Fergal Horgan of Tipperary will referee this year's minor hurling final between Kilkenny and Limerick.
