Westmeath sinking as fast as economy

WHICH is going to bottom-out first, Westmeath football or the economy? The rapid decline began around the same time -- in the summer of 2008 -- and since then it has been freefall all the way.
Since beating Tipp in the 2008 All-Ireland qualifiers, Westmeath have lost 12 of 13 league and championship games (a Leinster SFC win over Wicklow last year the only bright spot) and have dropped from Div 1 to the bottom of Div 2 after losing nine NFL games in a row.
A clash with Meath in Navan on Saturday is unlikely to be the start of the recovery and Westmeath already look in danger of dropping from Divisions 1 to 3 in successive seasons.
