The Dublin wingback received a black card after 27 minutes for a shoulder on Cillian O'Connor but the incident has actually worked to Dublin's advantage.

At that stage a Dublin player had yet to score despite the fact the Jim Gavin's men led thanks to two own goals, the first from Kevin McLoughlin before Colm Boyle then put the ball into his own net.

Paddy Andrews came on for McCarthy and he kicked two beautiful points from play to steady the Dublin ship.
