Cavan failed to build on winning their first Ulster title since 1974 when they faded after a bright start at Pearse Park as Galway secured a place in the semi-finals.
Cavan led by 0-5 to 0-1 after 21 minutes, but Sean Moran's goal for Galway six minutes before the break set the Breffni teenagers back on their heels and they never really recovered.
Six points from Shane Walsh in the second-half sealed Cavan's fate as Tommie Joyce's side finally showed their true form to set up a semi-final against either Dublin or Cork, who meet today at Portlaoise.
In the early exchanges, Cavan full-forward Kevin Bouchier shone brightest and was heavily involved in creating points for Joe Dillon (two) and Dara McVeety, as well as notching a pair for himself.
Despite Moran's goal, Cavan held a 0-6 to 1-2 advantage at the break and looked to be in a position to kick on to victory. But after a quiet first 30 minutes, Walsh stepped up and led Galway's march towards Croke Park.
Two minutes after the restart he slotted a terrific score from the right to level the game and four minutes later he found wing-back Cathal Mulryan in space to kick them ahead. From there Galway never looked back.
Walsh had added a brace of frees before Andrew Graham ended the Cavan drought in the 44th minute, but Walsh was on hand to kick another two frees and a late screamer from the left -- which was subject to some umpire indecision -- to seal the three-point win.
