Tommy Walsh's departure from the Kerry football squad has compounded a difficult week for the county after their league final drubbing to Dublin.

Kerry County Board have not officially confirmed Walsh's departure as the team have broken up for the week ahead of championship preparations but it appears that Walsh, who only returned home from a five-year AFL career in late 2014, has already made his decision.

The Kerins O'Rahillys man only played 13 minutes of championship football in 2015 and while he started the first two league games this year, he hasn't started since and was an unused substitute on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the establishment of a new Tralee Warriors Premier League basketball franchise, to be led by Kieran Donaghy, could see last year's captain bring his inter-county career to an end later this year.
