UCD ended a 20-year drought in the Sigerson Cup today and man-of-the-match John Heslin singled out one man for special praise at the final whistle.
The students of UCD claimed the bragging rights in the Dublin derby at Jordanstown today when they defeated reigning champions DCU 0-10 to 2-02 on a wet and windy afternoon for the third-level showpiece.
Westmeath star Heslin was in irresistible form, bagging all but four of their points as UCD clinched their 33rd title.
Dave Billings was an integral part of the GAA set-up at UCD and oversaw the development of some household names during his role at the college. Earlier this week the Freher footballers of DCU defeated UCD in the Independent.ie Dave Billings Cup final at Croke Park.
Speaking to TG4 post-match, heslin admitted it was an emotional week after all Billings and done in his football development.
“There's one man I have to mention before I go any further and that's Dave Billings,” he said.
"I came into the college in 2009 and he took me under his wing like I was another son. He taught me so much and I had to hold back a few tears in preparation for this weekend."
