Vaughan on fire in Cork cakewalk
Cork 0-18, Clare 0-9
The juniors began a good day for the Rebels at Cusack Park when they recorded a nine-point victory over hosts Clare.
Leading by 0-10 to 0-1 at the break, the visitors pushed on in the second period to earn a deserved victory thanks to some fine scores from play by Andrew O'Brien and the free-taking of Cathal Vaughan.
Cork dominated the first half, with Clare's only score coming from Mark McCarthy. In the second half Clare improved for an early period and kicked three scores without reply, through McCarthy, Darren O'Neill and Craig O'Brien.
But the Leesiders, thanks to Vaughan's accuracy from frees in the main, were never going to be troubled. The Iveleary club man poached five of his side's eight second-half scores from wing-forward, putting in a man-of-the-match performance.
