UL too strong for IT Tralee in Sigerson Cup but must improve for Queen's test
University of Limerick 2-15 IT Tralee 2-8
UL manager Brian Carson, a Sigerson Cup winner with DCU in 2006, said his men will need to improve for next week’s quarter-final showdown with Queen’s University.
His side chalked up an impressive win in the rain on the 4G pitch at UL, but Carson believes there is plenty of room for improvement.
“We were a little sloppy at times and if we give Queen’s those kind of opportunities next week we will be in a bad place but we are just delighted to get this win.”
The sides were level at 1-6 to 0-9 at the break after Conor Lowney found the net for Tralee after 17 minutes.
Shane Killoran’s goal after 44 minutes put UL five ahead and while Paudie Quill cancelled it almost immediately, the home side pulled away with wing-back Fergal Boland taking his haul to 0-3, while Bryan O’Shea wrapped it up with a late goal. Tralee finished with 14 when centre-back Cian Horan was sent off in the closing stages of a good game.
“We’re very disappointed. We came up here thinking we would give them a better game than what we did,” said IT Tralee manager PJ Reidy.
