Declan Ambrose scored a goal in each half at Farranfore on Saturday as 2006 champions DLS Macroom squeezed into the Corn Ui Mhuiri final.

The game was on a knife edge entering the final 10 minutes, with the sides deadlocked on 1-8 apiece. In the 52nd minute, Macroom's Tony Dineen floated in a high ball from 45 metres that was not dealt with by the Dingle defence. After some ping-pong, supersub Cathal Vaughan fired home a goal.

Then five minutes later, speedy corner-forward Ambrose started and finished a magnificent move for a goal that all but assured his side of a place in the decider. Ambrose edged past Padraig O Se (son of Kerry legend Paidi) and found Declan Twomey; he passed to Greg Barrett before Ambrose himself raised the green flag.

It appeared game over, but Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne responded and counter-attacked brilliantly, with Brian O'Conaill slipping the ball into the net.

The deficit was back down to a goal but the Macroom defence, inspired by Kevin Barrett, held out.

Ambrose had given Macroom an early fillip when he pounced on a defensive error to finish soccer-style and put his side 1-6 to 1-5 ahead.

Sean Diony O Conchuir got the first Dingle goal.
